Thank you!
Thank you all for being a member of the Advisory Board for Washington High School’s newest California Partnership Academy (CPA) called the Multimedia Art Academy (WMAA). WMAA was initiated in the fall of 2009 and through California Partnership Academies (CPAs) offers opportunities for students to explore possible industries, post-secondary education opportunities and have career-related experiences while attending high school.
The teachers of the Washington High School Multimedia Art Academy came together with a shared passion to help at-risk students improve their skills and succeed in school. We believe when students are connected to their studies through art and through caring teachers they will find success. We want to introduce an academy that will focus on careers in all forms of art and multi-media. This academy will include a set of California Technical Education (CTE) courses that lead students along a pathway during their sophomore, junior and senior years. Careers in the Pathway will include preparation for continuing education in all art careers set forth in the CTE Standards, direct work and internship opportunities, and preparedness for professional level jobs in the areas of the art field.

Using the CPA approach, and with the cooperation of organizations such as yours, we will offer integrated, hands on courses, job shadowing, industry field trips, guest speakers, and internships. We are excited at the prospect of utilizing our partnerships to create a strong advisory (including teachers, administrators, counselors, and community members) to help Washington students achieve their academic goals and close certain achievement gaps. Washington is a diverse community that is seeking more creative avenues to peak student interest and creates more opportunities in art.
So! What do you need to do?
For the purpose of this new advisory board, we will ask you to read the course overview pages found both on this blog and on the academy website. We will be posting questions on the "Discussion" page and ask that you read the questions that pertain to you and add any feedback. All suggestions will be seriously taken as we are hoping to create a truly memorable and valuable experience for our students.
Some of the topics we will be discussing include ways to better instruct students on technology that is currently used in industry, necessary art skills, on ideas for field trips, guest speakers, job shadowing and internships, as well as any other help, contacts, donations, or connections you can give us will be paramount in the education we provide our students.
Once again, thank you for your support in building our new Mutlimedia Art Academy at Washington High School. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
The Teachers of the Washington Multimedia Art Academy
