2-D Computer Animation

2-D Computer Animation
Course Overview

2-D Computer Animation is a year-long course with the goal of creating computer-generated narrative and interactive animation projects. Course content combines three major themes: Theory: The elements art and principles of design; Technique: Artistic skill including drawing, kinetic art, and methods for simulating motion Technical Skill: File management, Flash ActionScript 3.0 programming. Students begin by studying the history of motion depicted in art, from wall paintings created in ancient times to contemporary full-feature animated films. Learning is intensely project-based. Students explore line drawing, perspective, color theory and space. Students create 2-D computer animations with Adobe Flash and supporting software. Initially, students create projects designed to mimic examples of master work which explore foundational art components. As the course progresses, the majority of production emphasizes personal expression and creativity. By the end of the course, students will create a professional-quality Flash animation portfolio suitable for use as an application for a job or post-secondary institution. The portfolio will include narrative cartoons created individually and in groups, interactive artwork and games, and audio projects.
